Film night is taking a break! The summer is upon us and we at MAT will be taking a break from our usual work... but, we will be looking for great films for the 2013-2014 film series from the Toronto International Film Festival. Thanks for coming out, and for checking back here.

MAT announces an exciting new addition to our regular theatrical season this year.   On Friday June 5, Saturday June 6, and Sunday 7th, 2015 MAT will show case two new one act plays by local playwrights Jim Lewis and Dawn Hanley.    The Anniversary by Jim Lewis is a romantic comedy about assumptions, misunderstandings and the ensuing fun!  The second play The Coffee Break by Dawn Hanley, follows the story of two shipyard workers who debate the dangers of their line of work during a coffee break.  The shows will be held in our newly converted performance space at 12 Brammer Drive, Orillia.  Tickets are $15 per person and will include a delicious tart plus coffee or tea at intermission.

Show time will be 7:30 on June 5 and 6th  and at 2:00 p.m. on June 7th. Be a part of history and be among the first to see live theatre in our new space.

The MAT Award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to community theatre through their direct involvement with MAT.  This year MAT is proud to present MAT Awards to Jim Lewis, Yvonne Lacey (posthumously) and Jackson Spear (posthumously).  Their hard work and dedication led to quality community theatre enjoyed by many!  MAT Awards will be presented on the opening night of Two Plays and a Tart, Friday June 5 at 7:30 p.m.

You’ll Get Used To It! – The War Show, by Peter Colley: A look at Canada in World War II through the eyes, memories and songs of the soldiers themselves, from basic training to Dieppe, Italy and Germany.  Revue-style, energy-packed, in turn funny, poignant and very moving,


MAT is looking for:

6 men to play, act and look in their early twenties (good actors with singing voices that can sell the songs);

Men in 40-50 range to play a number of roles and also sing;

Women to act 18-30 range with good voices and able to play a number of roles.


Auditions will be held at the Phil Hull Rehearsal Hall, 12 Brammer Dr., Tues and Thurs June 9 and 11 at 7.00pm with call-backs if necessary on Sat June 13 at 10.00am. If you don’t bring a set monologue, expect a cold reading from the script. Be prepared to sing, preferably a song from the show (eg Bless ‘Em All, Pack Up Your Troubles, Tipperary, Lilli Marlene, We’ll Meet Again, etc).  If you want accompaniment, please provide music.
